Weekly Words 11-29-09

Advent – The season of preparing for the Lord's arrival. As the pastor reminded me in church today, this is the season of acknowledging three "arrivals." We remember and celebrate how Christ came to live as man to be the living sacrifice for our sins. We remember and celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit into our own person. Lastly, we prepare for Christ's final arrival in the end days.

Are you ready for His arrival? Are you ready to celebrate His arrivals? This month, I am going to focus on preparing myself for His arrival.

Col 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

This week's memory verse reminds us that we must forgive. After all, aren't we recipients of God's grace? Remember, each time we recite the Lord's prayer we say "Forgive us our trespasses and we forgive those that trespass against us." Time to let go of the grudges.

Your challenge for this week is to:

  • Memorize this week's verse. You can print the image with the verse for a handy reminder.
  • Review your life. There must be someone you need to forgive. Begin to make steps to forgive. Confrontation, especially if it is impossible or a matter of safety, is not necessary for forgiveness. Forgive in your heart and ask God to forgive you and the person you are forgiving.
