Weekly Words 12-6-09

The verse I chose for this week is from the Old Testament because of Matthew's reference to it in the New Testament.  He tells us that this is Old Testament verse was the foretelling of John the Baptist.

(Mat 3:1)  In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea

(Mat 3:2)  and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

(Mat 3:3)  This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one calling in the desert, "Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'"

There are so many references in the Old Testament to the New.  I find the way in which God revealed His word, constant and true, through a span of hundreds of years just one more of  His wondrous gifts.

This weeks verse talks of preparing the way for the Lord.  Are you ready?  Are your family and friends ready?  Christians know that they are save by Grace through faith in Christ, but what of those we love that are not saved yet?  My focus for the week is to prepare those near to me.

The assignment for the week is:
  • Meditate on Isaiah 40:3
  • Make a list of at least 5 people you come into contact with that are not saved
  • Pray for the list of unsaved and seize any opportunity to share why you are a Christian.
